My first priority in therapy is creating an inviting space in which my clients feel safe and comfortable. I hate going to the doctor or the dentist and feeling judged or anxious about what they will think about me. I strive to help my clients in never experiencing these thoughts or feelings when entering my office. Second, my goal is to create a space for my clients to work towards their desires and goals in therapy with a task-oriented approach. I believe this assists the client in effectively measuring their progress towards their own goals in therapy. Tailoring each session towards the client's individual goals and needs helps me use a person-centered approach and meet the client where they are in that moment. I believe I am a tool in the client's tool belt to help them feel empowered and achieve their goals in a therapeutic setting.
I feel it is helpful for clients to know more about my background to increase their comfort of sharing their own.
I grew up in rural Wyoming. Throughout my upbringing, I recognized the need for mental health care in my community and the lack of what was available. This encouraged me to strive for a future in the mental health community. Throughout my employment history, I spent time working with the elderly community, legal and justice systems, and special needs communities. During this time, it became clear to me how many people either did not feel comfortable seeking mental health, or did not have access to the mental health care they needed. This encouraged me to be an activist for those in need. This pushed me to gain an Associates of Arts in Social Work while living in Montana and enjoying the outdoors. From there I moved to Laramie, Wyoming and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Wyoming. Motivated to provide mental health care to those in need, I then received a master’s degree in social work from the University of Western New Mexico.
I enjoy getting to know anyone and everyone who comes through my door. I especially enjoy working with the LGBTQ community, those struggling with anxiety or depression, care workers, and those desiring change in their lives.
In my work, I enjoy incorporating various systems into my therapeutic approach, including family systems, dialectical behavior therapy, somatic therapy and cognitive behavior therapy. I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and enjoy incorporating that modality into therapy to assist clients in feeling empowered in overcoming their struggles. This eclectic approach allows me to meet my client’s where they are at, as well as work from a holistic mind-body approach within a session.
